I was kicked out of English 101 in college.
When I arrived to Shepherd University, I expected to test out of English 101, however, the opposite happened. I was such a poor writer that I was relegated to English 010. (aka: the class with no college credit).
The point: I was a BAD writer! However, it’s not about the setback, it’s about the COMEBACK! Besides a Masters Thesis and PhD dissertation, I’ve also published over a dozen referred Sport Psychology journal articles. (When I was a professor).
I’ve also penned 8 successful books on Mental Toughness.
Here’s how I did it and adopted the same mindset to most of the difficult things in life.
I approach writing a book just like a workout. Every workout ends… No matter how difficult or strenuous the training, it WILL end! That’s the power of time, this too shall pass!
Henceforth, I made a commitment to write my books just like a workout. I set aside the first hour of the day to focus and write! ONE hour of writing and no less! I averaged five days of week with this method and it worked!
Some days I was in the zone and the words flew from my mouth like a majestic waterfall. Other days I’d only manage a few sentences and go down a rabbit hole of research, but I’d always stay focused for just that one hour!
I changed nothing about my lifestyle or commitments and made no hard deadlines of finishing. I simply focused my mindset on staying consistent.
If you have a big goal to accomplish, approach it like a workout! Do it for one hour every day, trust the process of time, and you WILL achieve it.
It’s not about the SETBACK, it’s about the COMEBACK
