Hey {{first_name| Friend}}

David Novak knows leadership.

As the former CEO of Yum! Brands, he led one of the largest restaurant companies in the world. Today, he hosts the How Leaders Lead podcast.

I also had David on the Mental Toughness Podcast to talk leadership, relationships, and why we may be only one good friend away from happiness.

After nearly 300 conversations, David noticed that the best leaders kept coming back to many of the same principles.

Here are 6 habits of great leaders.

  • Stay relentlessly curious. Great leaders never stop learning. They ask questions, seek feedback, and remain students regardless of how successful they become.

  • Communicate with clarity. People shouldn't have to guess what their leader expects. The best leaders make priorities clear and ensure everyone understands what winning looks like.

  • Treat failure as information. Setbacks provide valuable information about what worked, what didn't, and what needs to change.

  • Invest in relationships. Leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about listening, recognizing people, building trust, and helping others perform at their best.

  • Stay humble. Great leaders know they have blind spots, so they surround themselves with people willing to challenge them and tell them what they need to hear.

  • Keep growing. Success doesn't eliminate the need to improve. The best leaders remain committed to learning regardless of how much they've already accomplished.
