It doesn’t matter if I’ve ran a half-marathon, or a 50-miler, I have the same mindset AFTER every race!

And no, it’s not “ I’m never doing this again.” I admit, that sometimes happens, but that thought quickly dissipates. The mindset I’m referring to can linger long after the race has been completed.

No, It’s not “I’m never doing this again..”

In all transparency, I even had that mindset after finishing the 50k last weekend.

Here it is…

The mindset AFTER any distance race is…

“There’s NO WAY I can go further than that.”

After I finish a half-marathon, my mindset is, “I can’t do a full marathon.” And after my 50 milers, my mindset was “there’s just no bloody way I can run a 100 miler.”

In this most recent 50k, I puked at mile 27 and while I finished strong, I still had bad muscle cramps after the race. All I could think about is “How am I supposed to do that again?”

You see, I have a 100k in two weeks.

Honestly, I am a little concerned and anxious about it, because it WILL be hard!

It’s hilly as well, so it’s like finishing my 50k and turning around and doing it again!

However, there is a major fallacy with that type of mindset and it’s why I share this mental toughness newsletter with you.

The fallacy is: a 100k is NOT back to back 50k’s… Just like a 100-miler is not back to back 50-milers, nor is a 26.2 marathon, two back-back half-marathons.

The races are completely different and thus the mindset and strategy is different as well.

But, a major issue arises if we sit too long with those negative thoughts and self-defeating mindset. It will prevent you from trying the next big thing and going after your goal. Your mind will keep you on the sideline, afraid. And that’s what your mind wants you to focus on, because it’s only job is to keep you safe!

The best way to stay safe is don’t enter and what fun is that…

It’s not about the SETBACK, it’s about the COMEBACK
