The 61st Masters was one of the most special, because it was Tiger Woods first start as a professional at Augusta National.

He was the favorite and had already won 3x in a span of months during his rookie season.

However, he bogeyed the first hole and the 4th & 5th hole as well. It had not started well!

He bogeyed the 9th hole as well and shot a 40, (+4), on the front nine.

No Masters champion had ever shot over 38 for nine holes.

He was distraught and seriously questioning himself after such a rough start! So, he made an adjustment!

Tiger Woods had a mental reset and shot 30 on the back. He ended up in 4th place at the end of the first round.

The COMEBACK had just begun!

He won The 1997 Masters by 12 shots!

A few other notable records from Tiger Wood’s comeback

  • He became the youngest winner at age 21.

  • He set the lowest scoring record.

  • He won by the largest margin of victory.

  • He also held the largest led after 36 holes and 54 holes.

  • Tiger was also the first African American golfer to win a major championship!

It’s not about the SETBACK, it’s about the COMEBACK
