One of the businesses that I coach has me one-one with their sales individuals! We have 6 mental training sessions spread across three months and we put together a mental game plan and roadmap for each person.
One of these sessions involved speaking with a sales-rep about the power of “asking for the sale” and the need to ask someone 3x. Our conversation quickly morphed into the power of belief and confidence and doing what you don’t want to do.
We spoke about acting AS IF the miracle or sale has already occurred.
One of my favorite places is Chick fil-A and the pride they take into excellent customer service. A store manager even bought my meal one day! We both assumed that Chick fil-A was so inundated with customer service that they would go to any length to make sure the customer was happy.
One thing led to another and we both adopted the same homework assignment. That’s right, enter The Free Frozen Lemonade Challenge.
We bet that if asked they would give away a Free Frozen Lemonade! The rationale behind the challenge was two-fold. 1) the power of acting AS IF and 2) the need to do things you don’t want to do. The key to mental toughness and developing a champion mindset is belief and simply doing the things you don’t want to do!
We both were successful in the challenge and then debriefed into the strategies used. Soon, others in the company were trying it and successful at the Frozen Lemonade Challenge. It was a wonderful petri-dish for sales and mindset training.
Will you try it? If so, here’s the reasoning and tactics that you can adopt and implement into the Free Frozen Lemonade Challenge.
Ask for the sale (i.e. Free Frozen Lemonade).
You have to ask, so practice and be prepared with a plan on how you’ll ask. Assume the the sale while you ask as well!
Permission to say “no.”
My tactic is to order and then empower the person taking my order with a “Permission to say no, but can I also have a free frozen lemonade?”
You may have to ask 3X.
They asked me for my rewards on the App and it didn’t show a free frozen lemonade, so I had to repeat the ask. “Permission to say no, but can I also have a free frozen lemonade?”
Debrief it afterwards with someone else.
This is a good activity to get someone else to do it as well, so you can debrief. The debrief should involve what did you feel during or afterwards what did you learn about yourself while doing it.
Permission to Give Back!
If you feel so inclined, (since you’ll get the free frozen lemonade) buy one for the car or person behind you.
If you do it, please share with me your strategy!
