Only build what passes these 3 filters

After selling his company to HubSpot, Sam Parr had something most people spend years chasing.

He had money, time, and options. Instead of doing more, he got more selective. He created three filters and made a simple rule.

If an idea did not pass all three, he would not pursue it.

1. Is it fun?

He starts with energy.

If something does not pull you in, it will not hold you when things get difficult. The projects Sam builds align with what he naturally enjoys.

  • Do I want to spend time on this?

  • Does this energize me or drain me?

  • Would I still do this if it was not working yet?

Basically, if it’s not a hell YES, then it’s a hell NO!

2. Can it make at least 7 figures?

This is where most people get loose.

The question is not whether something can make money. It is whether it can make enough to matter. Before starting anything, he looks for real signals that demand exists and that it can scale.

  • Are people already paying for this?

  • Is the market large enough?

  • Can this realistically reach $1M or more?

3. Do I have a unique advantage?

This is the separator.

His edge comes from the audience and trust he has built over time. When he operates inside that advantage, things move faster and gain traction earlier. When he steps outside of it, progress slows.

  • Do I already have credibility here?

  • Do I have access, relationships, or distribution?

  • Am I starting with momentum or from zero?

Is it FUN?

Can It SCALE?

Is there a unique advantage?

The takeaway

In our business, we check the box on 2 out of 3 of these….

I have a unique advantage from having coached so many high-profile athletes, champions on PGA Tour, and caddied on PGA Tour, and written 8 books on Mental Toughness.

We have a lot of fun doing what we do. My wife and I spend a lot of time together, eat family dinner together every night, and make all of our kids events. This is how our values align with our business.

But, is mental toughness coaching a 7-figure business? Depends. Over time yes, but yearly? Not yet.

Scaling is next level.

Our business model thrives on having different reoccurring revenue streams. 1:1 mental coaching, keynote speaking, sponsorships, & team and business coaching contracts.

I like the filter: If it is not enjoyable, cannot scale, or lacks an advantage, it is likely a distraction.

Before you say yes to something new this week, run it through the three filters.

The mental game is about subtraction rather than addition.

One Mascara. Six Shades. Zero Smudge.

If most mascara’s fail to hit the mark… you need PrimeLash.

It’s a tubing mascara made for 50+ lashes, so it lifts and defines even the tiniest hairs… without flakes, clumps, or raccoon eyes.

Choose your mood: soft brown, classic black, jewel tones like Emerald, and statement shades like Burgundy plus Mulberry.

The best part? It wears all day, then rinses off with warm water. No tugging, no drama.
