Jalen Hurts became the first true freshman to start at QB at University of Alabama since 1984.

He had a historic season and was SEC freshman of the year. He led the team to a national championship game where they eventually lost to Clemson, 35-31. His sophomore season, he led the team to an 11-1 record and was MVP in the semi-final win 24-6 vs. Clemson. However, during the next championship game vs. Georgia, he was benched at halftime for Tua Tagovailoa and Alabama came back to win 26-23.

Now, put yourself in his situation, he lost his starting position in the National Championship game and was not going to be the starter the next season. With suitors galore, 99% of all athletes would have transferred. Would you have transferred?

But, not Jalen Hurts…

He stayed at Alabama and sat the bench.

However, everyone in and around the program spoke about his leadership and character and being an incredible teammate. I then became a fan. It took incredible maturity, humility, faith, loyalty, and belief in oneself to stay and be a back-up quarterback for the team you once led.

He did however transfer the 2019 season to Oklahoma and finished 2nd to Joe Burrow in the Heisman trophy. During this time as well, he completed his Masters degree.

Jalen Hurts always spoke at length about his faith and all of his journey was a blessing!

Drafted by the Eagles in the 2nd round of the NFL draft, he still faced his doubters, naysayers, and pundits. He took over as the starting QB in 2021 and did not look back.

His COMEBACK resulted during his 2nd Super Bowl appearance where he won Super Bowl MVP! It was a long journey with many ups & downs. But, he stayed focused on the process!

Remember, the harder you work for something, the more you’ll enjoy it.

It’s not about the SETBACK, It’s about the COMEBACK!
